change directions with wood floor
we are thinking of putting wood flooring in living room and hallway. how do you handle the point where hallway and living room meet. the long side of L.R. is 90degrees to the long side of H.W.
thanks,
chris

Hi Chris,

You didn't say what type of wood flooring. Is it; real hardwood, engineered, or? Is it wood-looking composite like laminate or vinyl?

we haven't thought that far ahead yet, LOL. the sub will be wood over crawl space, so not sure which is the best. but i googled floor layouts, and it said usually the edges run same direction as the main door to the room. (that would make the boards perpendicular to the joists. but short direction in living room, but long ways in hallway. living room is about16'x11'

I like to Google & love to use Google Street, but forget Google.

There is no reason to change the direction of the flooring, but, you should keep the planks going across the joists. Often good builders change direction of the joists in anticipation of hardwood.

You can add another underlayment to stiffen the space between them and lay in any direction. Install either 2- 2 1/4" wide strip flooring in the threshold, or a single 4.5" (or whatever the thickness of the wall is), and change the direction by 90.

Look at this video, it's not very good. Look at last few seconds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBgJdH8i63A It's split tongue, aka spline.
