Our entire traditional brick house has hardwood floors except the den; the linoleum tile seams are popping up. We don't know if the hardwood could be matched. What would be the best replacement floor? The walls are tongue/groove very nice siding. It is a high traffic area, so we are not inclined to choose carpeting.
You can still go hardwood, just install it so it's obvious that you were not trying to match the existing. That means running the hardwood in a different direction, adding a hardwood border or just making sure the type of wood and color compliment the existing without looking just like it.
