        Hello,

I originally posted this under "Decorating", but only received one reply. I'm hoping there are some other ideas out there.

We have an open floor plan from our kitchen/dining area into our living room. There is a single step-up, but that's the extent of the separation. The kitchen/dining area is Pergo (oak) and the living room is carpet.
We'd like to go to real wood flooring in the living room, but are pretty sure it would look "goofy" abutting to the Pergo.
We're not prepared to replace the Pergo AND the carpet.
Can anyone think of a mix that would not look "goofy"?

Maybe I could do something like use tile as a transition/boundary.

        Thanks in advance.

Even though there will be an obvious difference between a real wood product and a laminate, you can still keep if from looking 'goofy". I think the single biggest trick is to make sure that the new flooring is nothing like the old - use a different wood grain, different stain, different finish or run the wood in the opposite direction. This will keep it from looking like you tried to make a match that went terribly wrong. All you need to concentrate on is to pick a wood style that compliments what you already have without clashing.
