        Hi All,

I will be tiling my complete house pretty much. Only talking about 800 square feet:

        2 Bedrooms
        Short Hallway
        Living Room
        Small Dinning Room

Bathrooms, Kitchen and Entry way are already tiled, house came that way.

        My question is:

Where to start? What room, from the entry way back, from the bedrooms to the front?

        Thanks,
        Lisa

This is where somebody with experience comes in. It is going to be hard to tell you where to start because it depends on the layout of the areas you want to tile, and the size of the tile. And it also depends on what pattern you intend to use.

One good idea is to dry lay the areas and use the spacer for the grout size you want. It will show you where to start with full tiles and if you need to shift them one way or another to make the job look good. Dry laying them is the best way to see how it will come out. Don't just lay them approximate, use the spacers and lay them like you're setting them. And you dont have to lay the entire room out, that is to say start at one end of a bedroom and lay one row of tile that will go out of the bedroom into the hallway. Then lay another row at 90 degrees from one side to the other. Kind of like "Scrabble".

And if a bedroom says to shift the tile one way, but the hallway says to shift it the other way, keep in mind you can break the difference at the door threshhold where the closed door hides the seam. And you could lay different patterns in different rooms.

You can really start anywhere and tile in any order. The only reason that would dictate otherwise would be if you were trying to do all of the exact same tile in every room and to keep all the spacing the same. That would mean starting from an existing tile edge and continuing the pattern. The thing is, this is a bad. As Re-mdlr points out above, different rooms will look better with different spacing. I'd recommend dong different tiles in different rooms but even if you want to do all the same tile, break the pattern at doorways. Otherwise you may have odd spacing....for ex: your hallway may have a full tile on one side and only a sliver of tile on the other.

Thank you all so much. This helps. My brother is pretty good at tiling. We were just trying to hear others thoughts to see if we are thinking the same as others would or way off.

My brother suggested what Jaybee said since we are using all the same tile. This way each room is basically it's own.
