We are installing laminate flooring but have a 7 ft leather sofa and a leather recliner and no where to put them while we lay the floor. We were going to do half the floor and then move the furniture onto the half that is completed. We've been told not to do that. Is that correct that we shouldn't but the weight on it until it is done?

Not true. Just do not drag them across the floor, pick them up.

If not read all the directions before doing anything, still got questions, just ask before doing.
Do not buy the cheap Pergo brand install set, look for the Roberts brand tools. I think Lowes carrys them.
Your going to need the Z bar and a tapping block, the Robers brand Z bar is longer and thicker so you can be further away from the wall when hitting it and it's thicker so you do not have to keep bending it back in shape.
There tapping block is thicker, longer, and has a handle on it.
When setting the piece in place do not try and set them in place and just drop them down to the floor, you go up and down getting it closer to the floor each time. What that does is allow the lock to work it's way fully in place so there's no gap.
There has to be a gap any place the flooring is close to any wall or door threshold.
Preundercut the door openings, just flip a piece of flooring over to be used as a gauge when cutting.
Instead of spending time with a measuring tape at the end of a run, just turn the piece around laying it flat on the floor, move it over the required gap and mark it. Once you cut it just turn it around and it should fit. Once you start laying it you'll see what I'm talking about.
Your going to see sometimes the flooring trys to spring up away from the subfloor, a simple light tapping around the piece with a white or dead blow hammer will set the lock in place if you just tap across the whole piece.
Do not use a black rubber mallet, it will leave black marks.

Very important to cheak every single piece for damage before installing it. A razer knife can cut out any small damaged areas in the T & G area.
If there's a gap, stop, something wrong, if it's left in place all the other pieces will mess up.

Make 100% sure you read and understand how it goes around the door opening, this is where most of the installs I've seen fail. It does not just run straight across the opening!

Definitely no problem to install half the floor and then move your furniture on top of it so you can complete the job.

if you're doing a glue-down, moving all the weight onto the slippery unset section would be a Really Bad Thing.

if it's a floating floor, no problem. do NOT drag stuff across it, you will definitely threaten the integrity of the floor TnG sttachments. you sorta need the whole thing assembled to reinforce each piece to many neighbors before you can attempt to scratch the floot without popping any joints.

We did this with our large and heavy entertainment system on a floating floor. Worked just fine.

Not a problem you can lift the sofa to the part of the floor which is laminated. While lifting the sofa place a piece of paper under the foot and draw around the edge of the foot leg, to prevent from Scratches.
