        I want to tile my porch concrete floor Sign In/Join 
        I want to tile my porch concrete floor and it says I need a buffer or concrete board considering its already a concrete slab do I need the buffer or could I just clean the concrete and go ahead and tile ? Any help would be awesome and greatly appreciated. By the way the tiles I have chosen are ceramic wood plank look a likes

        Do you mean a backer when you say buffer? Anyway, you can tile directly on the concrete if you want - as long as the concrete is not painted. You can also use a backer like Ditra or cement board although the only reason to do so would be to either reduce the chance of cracks in the concrete transferring to the tile or if you are trying to raise or slightly level out the slap prior to tile install.

        But the simple answer is that you can tile directly to the concrete.

        You can tile direct to the concrete, but we need to know many other things. Are you saying the instructions mentioned a "buffer"?

        The condition of the slab, cracks, cuts, control joints? The size would help, the orientation of the slab. (does it get direct sunlight etc. Is the room enclosed, heated? Where the heck is it located............? (The weather may have something to do with the type of installation we might suggest).

        You do not install concrete backer on concrete. Ditra however, is your friend.
