I'm removing self stick Vynil tiles from a kitchen floor that was installed in 1978. The tiles are coming off fairly easy, but the problem is the residual addhesive. I've tried the Henry Company product with lousy results also I've used Laquer Thinnr and Mineral Spirits and they both do not remove this old adhesive. A heat gun also was used and all methods left a sticky mess. What else could I use that would remove the adhesive?
No easy way to do this - solvents and scraping generally have the most success, but as you are finding out is very difficult.
The main question is what kind of floor is going back down? If you are gluing down vinyl sheet or adding tile, you may just need to get any thick and bumpy parts of the old adhesive off and leave the remaining film.
