Hello..I recently had an accident in the kitchen that resulted in putting a hole in one of the tiles in my kitchen floor. We have looked all over to match the tile and we cannot find a match and cannot afford to replace the whole floor. It is right in the middle of the walkway and has quite sharp edges. Is there any kind of epoxy or anything we can use to fill in the hole till we can afford to replace the whole kitchen and dining room floor?

Not a perfect fix but until you can find a matching tile or replace the entire floor it's about all you can do:

Home stores stock a two-part fill. It's basically Bondo (like what is used for dents in cars). A putty-like base with a cream hardener. You can fill the hole and then sand it smooth. You may even be able to find a close paint match that will last for a little while.

Other options would be to use grout or even thinset, although these will have a coarser surface compared to the tile. Any repair like this will not last forever, but may tide you over until you can to the entire floor.

in the middle, hmm? how about you remove that tile and several others, and put a contrasting tile in there with thinset? you know you aren't going to match it, so if it's central enough so you can make a "feature" out of a flop, it's worth thinking about.

Another thought at the end of the day. See if you can take a tile from a hidden spot (back of refrigerator, back of stove, under a cabinet etc.) and use it to make a perfect match for the patch.

// dope slap // so obvious, Jaybee! I bought a bunch of tile when redoing the laundry room, and two boxes were lighter despite the same lot number. solution: under the tub and appliances with the lighter stuff.

so all cpetges has to do is find several "sorta close" tiles (because I expect at least one will break in shards getting to A Fine Hidden Tile) for the under-fridge area.

        For a temporary fix?
Buy some clear/transparent two part epoxy, more than you think will fill the hole. Mix up some titanium white artist oil tube paint with any other colors to create as close a match as possible to the tile color. Set aside.

Mix up the clear/transparent two part epoxy, more than you think will fill the hole. Add enough of the mixed oil color to the mixed epoxy to create a fairly opaque mixture. (the oil color is just to color the epoxy, and don't use more than needed) Then over fill the void and allow it an hour or more to set up/skin over. When fairly hard, take a wide razor and trim the overfilled area flat to the tile. Allow it to cure for a couple of days, depending on the size of the hole, to allow a full cure.

I have filled screw holes in shower stalls, and it is nearly impossible to find them. Have not done larger areas, but this could work at least for a while.

put blue painters tape on the edge of the good tiles if you use razor blades so you won't scratch the tiles...
