Harwood vs laminate
I'm torn between replacing the flooring in my family room and entry hall with new flooring. The cost of laminate is impressive but I don't want it to look like what it cost but the fact that hardwood is subjective to scratches and would need refinishing. I'm in my house for the long haul and not looking for quick cosmetic upgrades.

Laminate flooring definitely falls into the 'you get what you pay for' category. The $.69 to $1.50 per SF stuff is pretty much a picture of wood laminated on top. Doesn't really look very good.

When you hit the $3.00 per SF and up, you'll find individual planks and a real wood top layer. Looks as good as many real hardwood floors.
