Install hardwood over parquet floor
I currently have parquet flooring installed over a plywood subfloor. I would like to install hardwood floor over the existing parquet. A salesman indicated that this may be too much weight if I install solid hardwood but engineered flooring would be okay.Is installing hardwood over parquet with plywood subfloor too much weight?Okay to install hardwood over parquet? How much weight is too much for flooring?

It's probably not so much a matter of weight, more of attachment methods.
First off, in any installation, it will be better if the old flooring is gone. Less creaks and squeaks plus the new floor will remain closer to it's original height.
If the new floor is a floating floor, then it can be installed on top of the existing floor as long as the floor framing can hold the extra weight. If the new floor is a nail-down hardwood then the old flooring has to be removed. The nails for the new flooring must go into the subfloor, not the old flooring.
