Matching floors and cabinets? Sign In/Join

I am looking for some advice on a flooring update I am looking to do in my condo. It’s a fairly small space (total of 800 square feet) and the kitchen, living, and dining room are all open to each other. I have picked out a laminate floor that I absolutely love. It is “royal oak” color (really appears cherry to me) and happens to match my cabinets in the kitchen exactly. My question is if I put the laminate in the kitchen to keep with the connected space idea, will it be too monochromatic with the cabinets? Would I be better to put down a vinyl tile for contrast even though there is not that much kitchen floor space? My furniture tends to spill into the various "rooms" and there is not much distinction, but I didn't want it to look like my cabinets melted into the ground. Thoughts?

I wouldn't use a wood or laminate that "matches" your cabinets because in reality it won't match. It is better to have a contrast than a "close" match. IMHO

        General Disclaimer

Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.

My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.

And laminite in a kitchen or bath area is not a great idea.
Get's wet once from a water leak and it's trash.
Is there a HOA ? If so do they allow the use of Laminite? Some do not, or at least tell you what padding you have to use because it's loud to walk on.

To me? Sounds like a dark hole. We saw one home like that for sale, and the dark wood on flooring and cabinets make the whole area look cave like.
Personally I would opt for a contrasting floor of an overall pattern of a good commercial linoleum (not grid pattern) or porcelain tile of medium to light shade for the floor. It would reflect the light so much better.

I'm with Conrad... all this dark on dark stuff might work for Bruce Wayne, but it's standoffish and I find it depressing. lighten up, get some color on the walls, break it up with accessories, have fun.
