about two weeks ago I caught something about compost tea for your lawn. Also a cedar spray for bugs etc. Any one know where I can find the details here?

Organic Gardening magazine is one which has been published for decades and is a good source of articles on topics relating to use of compost.

These brief articles address the making of compost (in case you're not familiar with the process), and converting it into tea.

Basically you create the compost, let it mature, then dilute it with water and then use it on your garden. I don't see why it couldn't be used on lawn as long as it's mature and not fresh/hot compost.

Cedar has been recommended for protection against moths and fleas; I've hung cedar blocks in closets and put cedar chips or balls in dresser drawers for years. (Lavender is also used for this purpose if I remember correctly.)

Herb Companion, Herb Quarterly or possibly even Organic Gardening might have instructions for making cedar spray. I googled the subject but hits were for sources which sell the spray rather than instructions on how to make it.

Herb Quarterly is an excellent source for natural remedies but unfortunately its website doesn't have a search function.

Even though Herb Quarterly or Herb Companion would be my first choice for cedar spray recipes, I did find these instructions on eHow:

Unfortunately, the instructions for making a spray are incomplete as they don't indicate how much vodka should be used.

(Alcohol is used in some sprays, apparently as a "carrier" substance, and apparently also evaporates over a period of time. It's also used, for example, in a recipe for arthritis relief. Made with raisins, I've read that the vodka draws out the ingredients in raisins that lessen the effects of arthritis and make them more available for absorption when consumed). I imagine some would say this would be a waste of good vodka - a friend who used it said there is no taste of alcohol after the mixture "cures" for the requisite time.

The last link cited also has a number of other links on various sprays, as well as instructions on use of cedar oil. If you're not familiar with making your own oils, researching "carrier oils" will help provide some insight into the process.

Distillation is a different process, one which I've not yet tried.
