Are you talking ground squirrel(hogs) or woodchucks? I'm from Michigan and we call them different. If you are against killing them, you can use a live trap to catch them and release them elsewhere. I know ground moles are attracted to your lawn because of the grubs in it and if you kill off the grubs they go away, no food. The biggest way to keep woodchucks and ground squirrels off your property is a dog. Ours keeps everything off including the skunks.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

To woodlore: These are "woodchucks." You know, the ones that come out on February 2 and tell us if we are going to have good or bad weather for the next 6 weeks. My dog just lies there and doesn't even know they exist. If it doesn't move like a cat, she doesn't move either.

To Newt: Thank you for the links to woodchuck help. This one is really good "Dealing with nuisance wild life." Thank you, again.
