        Hello,

I am building a small 2-2.5' high 14" thick mortared stone wall. I am going to pour a 4" base of concrete under the wall and am curious to know if I have to use forms or can I just pour directly into the trench. The trench is 16" wide and due to the slope of the yard one side is about 2' deep while the other is 8" deep. I have already tamped 4" of gravel into the bottom of the trench over a layer of weed barrier cloth. IThe concrete will have rebar support. Just curious if I need to form it up or let the concrete just fill the trench. The wall will be natural stone with mortar.

As long as the concrete is contained it should be okay. Forms are mostly used to contain concrete such as an overly large corner etc..
NOTE: 8" seems shallow so be sure to check out what the frost line dept is in your area.
