        Hi,
Living in Colorado, with an almost record number of 90+ days this summer has left my lawn not only brown, but thinning. So, the weeds are the only thing seeming to grow when I water. What can I do?
        Thanks.

I'm there, too. went a long time before it occurred because I cut my grass between 3 and 4 inches long. that way it shades the roots and catches the dew.

but it kinda of went south when we took a week off for vacation.

only thing I can offer is put a couple feedings of "winter build" fertilizer on there for stronger root growth, and water it in well. that's in my plans this weekend.

sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?

May want to try Ortho weed be gone. It worked for me. The grass came back and all the broad leaf weeds died off.

Well, that's the nature of the problem. Weeds are simply hardier than grass, and can stand up to harsh conditions better. How to have a nice lawn when conditions are such that the only thing that can survive is weeds?

I use a herbicide called Par III, which I understand is made in Canada and might not be available in the USA. It's made specifically for parks, golf courses and sports fields (like soccer, baseball and football fields) where you want to kill the weeds, but NOT harm the grass.

Phone up your local golf courses and ask to talk to the "greens keeper" to see what they use. I'm sure there's a product similar to Par III you can buy in the US.
