removing rotting railroad ties
I have a tiered backyard and the railroad ties have rotted. What is the best way to remove/replace them with cinder blocks or should I replace them with railroad ties again?

I think what you replace them with depends on your own personal preference, the width of the steps, steepness of the slope, soil type, and whether or not you want to use railroad ties again given that the existing ones rotted out.
Some questions...what did you use to preserve the existing ties? When did you install them? How did you stabilize them?
My concern with cinder blocks would be looks but stability would be a bigger issue. How would you plan to install the blocks and secure them?
Unfortunately, I don't have any knowledge on how to remove the existing ties, but I'm sure someone else will help you on that issue.
