Can anyone offer any suggestion on how I can spruce up underneath my deck. The area under the deck is on a slope, it is all mud/dirt and complete shade. I have to worry about erosion because of the slope and also what type of plants can withstand a full shade area. I was thinking about Ivy and rocks, but I'm in need of some serious assistance here. Any suggestions?

Hi lsaalfeld,

I don't think I'd use rocks or gravel as it might be difficult to weed once weed seeds blow in. Not much will grow in total shade, but ivy is definately NOT a good idea. It will get into your foundation and under any siding you have. Dwarf mondo grass comes to mind. It looks like grass, doesn't need to be cut, won't spread out of hand and doesn't need sun.

Got any pictures so we can see how much space you have to work with?

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
