I am planning for a backyard makeover and I need some advice. I need to start by building up the backyard. There are some low spots that I want to even out with some more dirt. Should I remove the grass in these areas and fill in the dirt or just cut it down short and add dirt on top and apply some seed?
How you approach this would depend on how deep the low spots are, how large they are and possibly what caused them. Here's a thread from a professional lawn forum that might give you some insight into what I'm talking about. This is the Commercial Lawn Care forum for this board so some of the terminology might be a bit unfamiliar. http://www.lawnsite.com/showthread.php?t=235405
If you do decide to post, be sure to add where you live to your profile as well as pics and as much info as possible as to cause, type of grass, etc. Here's their main page so you can read the rules, etc and register. http://www.lawnsite.com/index.php
When you get answers, it would be wonderful if you post a link to the thread here so others might follow along.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
