Refinish takes time and effort -so next is painting?
What to use to clean the cabinets? How to repair where worn or chipped? How hard to do?
With painting I only see white color. My floor is a travertine and walls are white and countertops are also whitish. What other color can be used for cabinets?
Here is an article on the subject from This Old House.
As to color white is not your only option, that and there are only about 5000 shades of white out there, yellowish white, bluish white, gray white, tan-white, etc. I painted the cabinets in our last house white, it was a temporary step as we intended to re-do the kitchen in a few years. We sold the house instead. That said, I'm not a fan of white. Go to a home center and look at the options available for painted cabinets. If you find a color in cabinets you like you can always have the paint department color match it and do your cabinets in that color. Alternatively, you could pick one of the colors in the travertine and use that for the cabinets.
Any advice given here is general in nature and is not necessarily valid for your given area. If in doubt check with your local codes enforcement department for what is required when doing electrical, plumbing or structural work on your house. Permits may or may not be required in your area and home owners may not be able to DIY some tasks. I have no way of knowing if you have the skills needed to complete the tasks you are asking about, when in doubt seek professional assistance.
My advice may be worth exactly what you pay me for it. :-) For the record I did not stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
