I have a 90 Dodge Caravan and it has been a good van.Lately when I go to start it -it starts but like kills itself out. That happens if I start and back out of garage or start & pull forward it has a slight lurching feeling (not like transmission but engine).
When I am driving say on open road or interstate I can vaguely hear something kicking in & out, but it doesn't affect the running on the highway-I don't believe it is the cooling fan as this just started.
It will run great on the open road and isn't so apt to die out once I have had it running but --say in town if I have gone only a few blocks and I come to a stop it starts like chocking or struggling and might even die out...needing to be started again then I must keep my foot slightly on the gas.
Any Ideas...???Thanks

Take a look at your IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. The valve and passages may be gummed up with carbon and varnish.

Thanks. Will do.
You wouldn't happen to know approximately where it is located would you?
Also I guess this is a part that can be changed out?
Thanks again

It's located on the throttle body assembly, it should be held on by 2 screws and there should be a 4 pin connector plugging into it.

Before you replace it, with the van running, unplug the connector from the valve and see if the idle drops, then plug it back in and see if the idle increases and stabilizes.

If you get no response, with the connector unplugged and the engine off, ignition on, use a voltmeter and check to see if you are getting power from the connector to the valve.
