Have replaced 4x4 switch and encoder and a vacuum switch. Not sure if the vacuum switch is the front axle engagement actuator, or a different part. The 4-wheel drive still does not work. If anyone has any suggestions as to what the problem may be, it sure would be appreciated.

Reply to Woodlore. The 4-wheel drive is a 1998 4 door Blazer. The system is a push button, one for 2 Hi, one for 4 Hi, and one for 4 low. It shows the system is engaged, but it is not. Any idea you may have as to the problem and the cost to fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to Woodlore for responding.

It could be the motor on the transfer case which is a common part to go bad.Under the battery tray is an acuator and look for a torn up boot.
