        Hello,

Our room is pretty narrow (11 feet wide). We want to mount a 42 inch flat panel TV in the center of the wall. On either side of the TV, we want to install bookcases. I'd like to hide the TV when we're not watching it.
I don't want to put the TV behind doors (I think that would look too "boxy").
I've wondered if there is a way to have a pull-down screen to cover the TV. The pull-down screen could, perhaps, have interesting artwork printed on it.
Before I run this idea past my wife (I can already hear her saying, "NO, that would look REALLY TACKY!"), what do you think of the idea? Are good looking screens such as I described available commercially?
Any other ideas for covering up the TV?

        Thanks in advance.

how about a nice oriental screen trifold or something like that?

another option would be to mount a second wall in front of the first, and have a weak see-through mirror mounted where the TV would be, so you would have a feature mirror. if you need to service the TV, remove the mirror in a mount... otherwise, the TV comes on and shines through the mirror.

you would have to provide bottom/top ventilation to that fake wall so the TV doesn't burn itself up in there and maybe start a fire.

sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?

There are a whole bunch of images of wall mounted tvs, and many with options for hiding them.

Thanks for your ideas "swschrad" and "Conrad". You've given me plenty to think about.
