Mix laminate and real wood flooring on the same level? Sign In/Join

We have an open floor plan from our kitchen/dining area into our living room. There is a single step-up, but that's the extent of the separation. The kitchen/dining area is Pergo (oak) and the living room is carpet.
We'd like to go to real wood flooring in the living room, but are pretty sure it would look "goofy" abutting to the Pergo.
We're not prepared to replace the Pergo AND the carpet.
Can anyone think of a mix that would not look "goofy"?

        Thanks in advance.

As "plastic" as laminite looks I feel it would not be a good choise to have any real wood next to it.
It would make the Pergo look cheaper then it already does.
