I have oak cabinets with a decorative molding attached. Inside the molding is a 1960's gold plastic insert. I believe its glued in. It has
a texture, so I want to cover it up by painting or some other solution. Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve these cabinets so that they are more up to date. I can't replace them.
I prefer to leave the oak and only work on the plastic insert. Thanks,

You should be able to remove small amounts of molding to get the plastic panels out. It is probably not glued in. It is not expensive to replace them with up to date clear textured panels. I think if you paint them, it will look like painted 70's plastic.
