        When replacing a fireplace screen does the screen have to overlap the entire firebox? If NOT is a rule of thumb how much should be covered?

        For the screen to be effective it really needs to cover 100% of the opening.

        The whole reason it's there is to keep sparks from poping out onto the floor.
        If there's a gap it's only for decoration.
