What is the newest/latest lighting for family rooms? We presently have flourest tube lighting in our drop ceiling in our family room, but wanting to update/change. TIA

If this is not in a basement then rip out the dropped ceilings and add can lighting, even a tray ceiling would look great. Sounds like someone was trying to hide something but putting one in. Like a plaster ceiling needing repairs.
