Hi all. I'm renovating the basement. For a closet door, I was thinking of a louvered door. But they all seem to be in prefinished white. The color choice I was thinking for the rest of the basement trim would be something in brown.
Would it be weird to have a white door with a brown stained casing/frame?

Might depend if you have white accents other areas? You might also consider a spray paint (Krylon or Rustoleum) in a slightly lighter color (probably won't find identical) than the casing. This would probably blend it into the surrounding frame a bit better, and not stand out like....well....a white door?

You can order an unprimed door.
I'd never suggested using one of the other posters suggestions for painting on wood unless you use the ones that say for wood right on the can. The other ones are made for metal.

Joe is right to always check label on the spray cans. I have both Krylon and Rustoleum brands of spray paint enamel that list primed wood as a base on the label, and I have used them successfully on wood. These two brands are the only ones I use, as i have had great results with both.

A louvered door is just easier to spray coat, than to paint, I think. If you do want an unfinished door to stain, I recommend a spray varnish finish for that too.

I've seen white doors (well, off-white) in model homes and it looked good. Of course, all the doors in the house were painted white.
