I have decorative paneling that I painted to look like tile in my kitchen. I used 1/4 inch tape and it worked like a charm. The problem is where the tape was the paint was raised a little. I sanded it smooth and painted a burgandy over it. You can still SEE where the tiles were. I gave it three coats and you can still kinda see where it is. I did the tile look just under my cabinets not above them. I have all cabinets in my kitchen and no walls. Is there something I can do to mask the tile look. I thought about sponging, but what color would you sponge over burgandy and besides I really like the burgandy look.
Thanks

Burgundy and reds take many coats of paint, with or without decorative paint underneath.

Can you actually see raised areas where the tape was or are you seeing the shadow underneath the paint? If it is a shadow, I would put another coat or two on. My kitchen has 5 coats of red paint over a dark pink primer.

It is more of a shadow. Who would have thought that Burgandy would not cover that well.

in the first house that i flipped there was one room with that dark ugly paneling. about 36 in up i put a chair rail...under the rail the paneling was painted white...above it we used the heavy vinyl wallcovering that is paintable. we got it at lowe's and was about $20 a roll and have a wide variety of textures and designs...goes on like wallpaper (read directions carefully, though) and looks absolutely fantastic. we used the same stuff in the entry hall where there was two layers of ugly 70s wallpaper that we couldn't get off the wall...it covers ridges, gouges, rips and small holes with noticing they were ever there.
