I have a series of windows behind the corner kitchen sink, and they are directly under a soffit that is about 18" deep. I was thinking of putting a valance directly onto the soffit, instead of onto the windows themselves because I don't want to block up to 40% of my light and view by covering up the windows. But I'm not confident in this plan. Any thoughts or other ideas?

Another few details about this: if I do this, I would plan for the valance to be a flat (not gathered) design, mounted flat against the wall so as not to bring it out any further from the windows. I would also have it drop about five inches below the line of the soffit so that as a person gets closer to the windows, the "ceiling" of the soffit is still hidden until you get right up to the sink. Also, we have a bay area with windows that I will be doing valances for, and wanted this all to match. I know that I could leave it alone, but I think it looks a bit cold and unfinished as it is.
