I am hoping this board brings me some luck! My husband let me by a new couch for our living room last year. I loooove grays, even before they were popular years ago! I bought what I thought was a very light gray couch. Well we had to replace our carpet, and I picked out a dark taupe color, with gray and brown undertones to match all of our rooms in the house. This carpet went on our stairs in our 2 story carpet and in the living room. The problem now is that with this dark carpet looking a little too brown with our very light gray walls, it now makes our couch look silvery lavender, and sooooo out of place! What can I do to bring the two colors together? I don't like brown, so don't want to add brown throw pillows. The carpet is a dark beige/taupe. I really wanted a light airy look, but needed darker carpet with 4 kids ages 3-8. Any advice? I can't replace our couch!
What kind of lighting do you have?
Photos would really help to see how the colors interplay with each other.
Here is a pic.m hope this helps. We have one floor lamp and two windows. It's a room we never use, but it's the first room you see when coming in the front door. What about adding spa blue throw pillows? I'd like to get rid of the two brown pub chairs......I found cute spa blue chairs, but not sure if adding a color will help or hurt.
Thanks for the photo. I really don't see the silvery grey in the couch, but perhaps it's because of the angle and the fact that it's a photo.
Actually, I think the neutrals blend together quite nicely - lots of mocha and dark chocolate. Makes me think of a nice box of chocolates.
If I were to add anything, I think it would be some greenery, even silk plants if your house is too dry for live plants.
I've seen some stunning combinations of the sand and sea theme...sand and ivory combined with a pale blue reminiscent of sea or sky.
I'm not really sure of the color range of a spa blue, so I googled it. Benjamin Moore has a blue spa color which is kind of an aqua and the color of some parts of Caribbean seas. I think adding some sea colored pillows might provide some pizazz to your living room.
I also think adding some complimentary colors in a sea and sky theme will help spark up the color scheme, but I still do like the pub chairs!
You could also change the color scheme in the fall and add some more neutrals in mutued gold, rust and flame tones.
You really need to bring that living room to life. If you do not want to change the couch, OK. But you should consider adding a little color; maybe some accessories, decorations to get rid of the monotony transmitted by that room. You can hang some pictures and use some covers for those chairs - use a color to contrast with the couch (maybe a nice purple). Hope these recommendations will inspire you.
Don’t forget to share with us the improvements you’ve made! Good luck!
I like your couch and I think black or dark blue will suit your requirements and with your hall arrangements. And try to add colors or colorful decoration to the wall behind the couch.
