I think he is on either The Learning Channel or Discovery Channel. Don't think he has a program on the DIY network, so he usually isn't a topic of conversation here. Bud's right, on the forum for his show, he is a g o d.
Hi Bud, By quality work shown, I meant what HE (Holmes) and his crew does after prior jerks have messed things up for the home owner. He explains why the prior work failed and has great advice on getting (and following up on) references and not just trusting a "nice guy with the cheap estimate"
And the camera work is not the crazy tipped angles and zoom in and out of many of the DIY decorating shows. Do you not agree?
I don't watch any of those programs any more. The last few times I watched Mikey Bibbs he was yellin' and screamin' and smashin' things with a sledgehammer in every episode. I got sick of it.
I do know he has at some timed been Schluterized and that's a good thing. Prior to that I watched him butcher a few showers on his own, but hey, that's a different country.
Personally I don't think he sets the best example. What he has going for him is he seeks out screwee's and everybody loves a story like that. Kinda like Ty - can't make it on his own but prays on the compassion he can stir by helping the downtrodden.
Guess I have not seen all the episodes that you have. Seem to see them hit and miss, as I don't check the TV directory. The ones that I have seen, really can't say I saw any of the behavior you describe, but then again I've only seen a few.
I have to laugh, it seem like everytime I see his show It's something I've been through myself. There's just so many hacks doing business in my area, that have been around for years screwing up peoples homes, that for the first few years in business all I did was go to peoples homes that one contrator had so called "built" and redo them all because of all the leaks, sagging floors, siding falling off. If he built it you could count on no roofing felt just shingles, one did not even have a starter cource of shingles so there was bare wood showing. He never used OSB or plywood for sheathing except in the corners, and even then he never ran it all the way up to the top plate. He used Celotex, but then never nailed the siding to the studs he just used 1" long nails and stick it into the Celotex. He may as well of used thumb tacks. One sliding door was leaking and I found out he had not nailed the J moulding in place (he used caulk to hold it in place just at the top), no window tape, a patch job with the Tyvek that looked like a patch work quilt, no pan under the door. A dead flat dormer roof with reguler shingles and not even felt paper on the roof. The shingles were cut back before the fachia went on so the fashia stuck out behond the shingles. And this guy is still in business. He lost his licence in this are so he just moves to another county and starts up again. So far he's lost it in in three countys and is still going.
