We're building a new home and the contractor is suggesting the use of mahogany siding. Supposedly an oil-primed wood. However, several paint stores have questioned this choice because they don't think mahogany would hold paint very well. Anybody with any experiences (pro or con)? there's not much on the web. Thanks in advance.

That would be nuts to do that. Why would someone buy one of the most expencive woods out there and then paint it? Mahogany is a very oily wood and takes a long time to rot, that's why it's used on boats all the time, but it's sealed with a clear oil sealer that soaks in not painted. Time to be talking to someone else about doing this job. joecaption
