Skylight over shower
We have a problem with a skylight that is above our shower. It is out of reach to open and close and so causes ventilation issues. We don't know what the best option would be...replace the skylight with one that would give us some way to open and close it...or take it out? Just not sure what we could do if we took it out? Please help!

There never should have been a sky light there in the first place.

A solar tube would have been a much better idea.
Is there an exhost fan in the room?

I would just replace it with a good quality stationary skylight. Use an exhaust fan as joecaption mentioned for the actual venting and removal of moist air to the outdoors. We have had verilux stationary roof skylights and never had a leak issue.

You definitely need to install an exhaust fan to avoid any other issues that may come up from the poor ventilation. If you decide to replace the skylight then it makes sense to be able to reach it Smile

You can purchase extension rods that will help in opening the skylight, but as others have said you need to install an exhaust fan too. Check HD, Lowes, etc., both would be nice.

Motor controlled operators may be available for that model. Switch or remote operated to boot. Can't make the statement "Never should be there to begin with" without a visual. But according to current NEC standards a fan is required, window [or operating skylite] not withstanding. Good luck.
