Hi, I need some help on how to remove that white stem that is in the picture. The middle knob to turn the showerhead on is not working so I need some help on removing that white part. My showerhead is on everytime I turn on the shower. Thanks you for your help.

You do have the main water shut off, right?
That chrome sleeve needs to come off first to expose the cartridge.

yep, turn the chrome pipe lefty-loosey to remove. there will be a seal ring that drops down the wall when you do, it is a necessary part to keep the stem from leaking, probably composite material. you'll need one of those narrow profile (thin) wrenches to get on those little flats, or you could wrap a couple layers of tape around a Stillson (monkey, toothless) pipe wrench and try that.

from there, the stem turns out the back of the chrome pipe to replace the packing. replace the washer while you're there.

installation is the reverse of disassembly.

sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?
