Hi, I need some help on how to remove that white stem that is in the picture. The middle knob to turn the showerhead on is not working so I need some help on removing that white part. My showerhead is on everytime I turn on the shower. Thanks you for your help.
You do have the main water shut off, right?
That chrome sleeve needs to come off first to expose the cartridge.
ok yea i have shut off the water valve, now how do you take the chrome sleeve part off? turn it?
yep, turn the chrome pipe lefty-loosey to remove. there will be a seal ring that drops down the wall when you do, it is a necessary part to keep the stem from leaking, probably composite material. you'll need one of those narrow profile (thin) wrenches to get on those little flats, or you could wrap a couple layers of tape around a Stillson (monkey, toothless) pipe wrench and try that.
from there, the stem turns out the back of the chrome pipe to replace the packing. replace the washer while you're there.
installation is the reverse of disassembly.
sig: if this is a new economy, how come they still want my old-fashioned money?
Ok i have removed the chrome sleeve and i took out the white part but now it looks like this. So i need to buy a new stem and just replace it right?
yes, if you can find the correct valve,,,coat it with vaseline before putting it in the faucet,,,clean out any forign bs from inside the faucet
I got it fixed, thanks everyone for your tips and comments.
