I'm doing my bathroom over and the standard tub was set. I don't like the look of it and now I want it to look like a drop in tub. How can I change the look without ripping out the tub, sheetrock, and plumbing?

About the only way would be to have a one piece top made. Not a cheap way to go.

the only reason I can think of to "make it look like a drop-in tub" or Roman tub is... some pile of magazines showed them.

if that's what you want, that's what you rent a pickup and bring home from the store. you will need to build a stout frame for the thing with 2x6 and secure it to the walls and floor. measure five times and cut once, for the tub will have to seal to the floor with integral pads or in a mortar bed... and set on the tile backer atop the frame, the thinset, and the tile without putting pressure on them. and then you need to run the tile backer up the wall, and do the waterproof overlay, and overlap it onto the tub frame, and..........

and if you don't find best practices in reliable sources online, this sounds like a good place to call a pro and get bids.

if you do have enough DIY under your belt to try this, get the correct information. make sure the drain is vented. do it all right, because this should be a 50-year lifespan for a well-done job.

oh, if you go larger than a standard tub, it's almost a certainty that you may have to sister up the joists to reinforce the floor. go much past 50 gallons and one bather, you have to beef it up.
