Securing a vanity
I got some great help a couple of weeks ago so I thought I'd try again. I am installing a free-standing vanity in a small bathroom. Two issue. First, it is fairly narrow (~24") so there is only one stud behind it. I was going to secure it to the stud and then use two stud-solver anchors on either side. That brings me to the second issuse, between the baseboard and the slight angle of the wall there is ~1/2" gap between the vanity and the wall and I was planning to shim between them. Are there better ways to handle this or will that suffice?
Thanks all!

Shimming will work but will leave that gap. Filling the gap may or may not be possible and may or may not look rather strange.

If the unit is held off the wall by the thickness of the base, it would be a better install all around to trim the base up to the unit - allowing the whole thing to be flush to the wall.

Remove the base, install the vanity, cut the base and reinstall the base on the sides of the vanity.
If you had an oscillating saw you could cut out that section without having to remove the rest of it.
There is no other good looking way to do it.

my opinion...cut the sheet rock, install some wood behind the pedistal sink..
you will not be happy any other way

I've installed hundreds of kitchen cabinets and vanity's and never once had to cut any sheetrock.

i believe the op is refering to a pedistal sink..the word free standing...made me think that
i do not think a vanity is refered to as free standing..as usual a picture would be a nice thing to have
they need to be bolted to a lav bracket, one stud is not sufficent
if not...some dumb-bunny will sit on the sink and it will fall on the floor
agreeded that a cabinet vanity does not need sheet rock removed
