grannysuzieqold fixtures
Why do most of the shows throw all the old fixtures away instead of donating them to places like habitat for humanity. I don't understand
the waste.

JaybeeBecause old electrical fixtures look way out of date, have tarnished finishes, heat scorched insulators that are brittle and cracking and internal wiring that is hard and cracking. In short, an old electrical fixture is not only out of style they are frequently dangerous - even habitat will not take them.

grannysuzieqThanks. That I understand. What I'm talking about are bathroom fixtures and some kitchen fixtures. Windows things like that.

ConradThe "drama" of the on screen demolition, destruction & dumpstering is worth more to the tv show than taking the time to remove them carefully and donating the items. Unfortunately.

swschradmore and more of the hosts on Scripps networks are pushing recycling, like Amy Matthews and Scott mcGillivray.
if what you have are past-period items, creepy condition, nasty internals, and frankly too scary for the bugs to live in, ReUse centers has a dumpster out back for that stuff, and you will be directed to take it there.
overstock, mis-sized, wrong color, and similar new stuff is avidly received. good condition classic items will be taken, as will trim ends of slabs that are large enough for table tops, at least in New Brighton. I found a really special partial spool of 5000 volt test lead cable for $5, obviously hardware-store donations for tax writeoff.
which reminds me... I have a classic drugstore table from my grandfather's on which the marble top finally shattered in 25 below weather. I need a chunk of granite to rehab it.
