Hi there!
I need some advice concerning my bathroom. We only have one and it needs an update badly. The tub is rusty, the paneling looks terrible, it needs new faucets, etc. Did I mention that the toilet and tub are blue?!

I'm living in my family home that was built in the 1950's and I'm getting married in a few months. I'm working within a budget and I want to update what I can. What do I prioritize? The whole room just needs a facelift and I'm not sure where to start.

However you do it, it is best for a one bathroom house to be empty while the renovations are going on. While it is possible to make a functional (but ugly) bathroom at the end of each days construction, doing this will cause it to take much longer and cost more - even if you hire a pro.

Best option - Hire a pro to completely renovate your bath. Assuming you can afford it.

Next best option - Do it yourself but do the whole thing. Demo everything then go from the floor up. For fast speed and lower budget, use pre-fab tub and shower enclosures. Plan and purchase all your major materials in advance so you are not waiting for deliveries. Plan out the entire project in advance, from what to do with all the debris to how to handle electric and plumbing changes. If you cannot do some parts, hire a subcontractor for these areas.

I agree with Jaybee! In order to perform a bathroom remodeling, you have to begin from scratch! If you don’t have the money necessary to hire a contractor, you must focus on DIY.

Start with making a plan – what you can improve and what you must replace! There are a lot of products that help you do the job by yourself. Get some simple and inexpensive tiles (subway tiles are perfect for bathroom wall).

if not, it may be cheaper to have the tub reglazed by a pro.
after the tub and tub surround is complete,
switch out the toilet and the sink cabinet

another tip: the best possible source of information about reliable businesses is the side of buses.

Bus advertisements are especially good for choosing attorneys. In this area, buses are adorned with attorneys' ads extending almost the entire length of the bus.

Don't even bother with getting references or checking out the top lawyers of the year. Just stand on the street and watch the buses go by.
