Alternatives to tile in a tub/shower surround
After a wonderful weekend of unexpected plumbing issues that included cutting holes in my tub/shower surround, I find myself needing to replace the entire surround. Does anyone know of any alternatives for materials that can be used besides tile and solid surface? I'm not a fan of grout and solid surface just seems so blah. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I need to fill in about 75 square feet with something.. Confused

There's also plastic / vinyl / fiberglass surround kits, but they are a downgrade from tile or solid surface.

There are thousands of solid surface colors and patterns, more than enough to keep from being 'blah'. That would be my first recommendation. You could also go with a natural solid surface like quartz, granite or marble. Just get ready to spend some serious money.

Look up in the yellow pages for Cultured Marble, and Corian countertop surfaces. They do tub surrounds, and like Jaybee said, have lots of choices. Go visit their showrooms to see samples.
Or large tile with 1/16 inch grout lines.

They make it look so easy on tv, don't they

Thank you! I found a place locally that specializes in surrounds, so I'll be paying them a visit this weekend. I never thought about the marble and granite. I would have thought those would be too porous for a shower. They are a little out of my price range though, but it's something to check into.

Thanks a bunch for your input!
