        12X24 Tile with 1/16" grout lines?

        Hello. I am getting ready to tile a shower using 12X24" tiles and was planning on doing 1/16" grout lines. I will be laying the tiles virtically with a 30% offset. This is my first major tile job and am a bit concerned that 16th in lines might be a bit unforgiving. Any advice or cautions before I commit?

        I like the 1/16 inch grout lines, with unsanded grout. But check your tiles, make sure they are uniform in shape and size (some aren't). As long as they are consistent, you'll have no problem, or little anyway -- afterall, it is a tile job. I've even used toothpicks as shims..

        They make 1/16" plastic spacers - will make this much easier.

        re-mdle is right - this whole project hinges on how accurate those tiles are. Many tiles are of by as much as 1/8" in both directions. If you have something like that then your plan will not work. Check several tiles to each other first.

        Thanks for the info. I will check a few tiles from each box to see if there is a variance. The backerboard and waterproofing should be done by the weekend. Let the tiling begin!
