I am in need for a new router.I mainly need it for small woodworking projects and to trim my new counter top(laminate). Is it worth buying a combo or just a fixed base.

I would buy a laminate trimmer and see how you like it for lightweight routing, if you then feel you want something that can do more, then I would opt for a plunge router that can handle 1/4 and 1/2 inch shank bits A good one is the porter cable router that can separate the motor from the baseThis message has been edited. http://www.cpotools.com/on/dem...Show?q=Trim%20Router May want to check out this site. They had had some good prices. Not a thing in the world wrong with the Porta Cable, I just happen to own one of these for my trim router and it works great. joecaption
