I am in need for a new router.I mainly need it for small woodworking projects and to trim my new counter top(laminate). Is it worth buying a combo or just a fixed base.

I would buy a laminate trimmer and see how you like it for lightweight routing, if you then feel you want something that can do more, then I would opt for a plunge router that can handle 1/4 and 1/2 inch shank bits A good one is the porter cable router that can separate the motor from the baseThis message has been edited. May want to check out this site. They had had some good prices. Not a thing in the world wrong with the Porta Cable, I just happen to own one of these for my trim router and it works great.
