I was taking apart my 60 odd year old Rocker to reglue it. My deceased uncle had it too close to the fireplace and over the years it just wouldn't hold together.

anyrate, as I was using the rubber mallet to get some of the rods out, the base cracked and split the length of the seat - not down a seam of one of the laminated boards - it made it's own.

To repair - in my head I'm thinking drill a couple holes for dowels - glue it together and clamp it.

any suggestions otherwise?

Just make sure when you put the 2 halves together they make a tight, seamless joint. If they do since this would be a long grain to long grain glue up no need for the dowels at all. They won't add any additional strength and if anything may actually make it more difficult to get the 2 halves to line up properly if their off slightly. Be sure to use plenty of a quality wood glue, don't over tighten the clamps (or you'll end up squeezing out all the glue) and you'll end up with a joint that is stronger then the wood itself.

I've got it all glued back together - when I clamped it - it was about a eighth of an inch off maybe (front and back) so I need to do a little sanding to make it feel seamless. I just haven't posted the update yet since I'm not quite done.

I used the titebond stuff - seemed to work really good.
