I have been shopping around for a framing nailer and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about round head verses clipped head. The clipped head seems to be more plentiful and has a wider selection of nails to choose from but I keep going back to the fact that framing nails have round heads.

Any thoughts?

I've used 'D' nails in my Paslode for years with no problems. If you will be using the gun a lot, the best guideline will be the cost of the nails. Although I havn't bought full head nails in a while, IIRC they were quite a bit more expensive then the D heads when I was first getting into framing nailers years ago.

If you are a pro and use your gun almost every day, the price of teh gun is small compared to the continuing price of the nails.

Check your local building code. Some don't accept clipped head nails.

I know in my area, (VA) In Fla and any hurricane or earth quake areas clipped heads will not pass.
