I posted this elsewhere and then realized that the question would be more appropriate here...
I have a kitchen table and chairs that I would like to paint black. The table is not solid wood. It has a thin wood overlay that has a layer of varnish on top. I have done quite a bit of research I believe that I will need to sand the table, apply an oil based primer, and then paint with a glossy oil based enamel paint (Ive been looking into BM paint...Impervo perhaps???). I have also thought about using an Epoxy Enamel spray paint on the table and chairs, then adding a clear epoxy coat on the top of the table for added durability.
Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to go about this or the best products to use? I'm going for a glossy finish that will be durable.
Once again, I would vote for a pro paint store to advise you? Carry in a chair or table leaf, so they know the original finish. Since you mentioned a great paint by Benjamin Moore, why not go there?
Scroll down to the post on the black bedroom set, as Goldenwood has taken the time to give great instructions too.
