I just tried to complete a lock joint last night and was unable to do so safely (following the directions provided by the DIY site), the problem cam when trying to cut the third cut (raise the front to the edge and cut a 1/4 inch slot (1/2 inch deep) in the middle of the 3/4 board. The throat cover for the dado blade does not provide enough edge support to keep the board from dropping between it and the dado blade. can anyone provide some guidance on how to cut this joint using the dado blade? I have thought about using the dado blade to cur the 1/4 dado and the 1/4 rabbit and then use a slot cutter on the router table to compelte the third cut. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I am trying to complete a kitchen cabinent out of pecan and wanted to use a different drawer construciton than pocket screws.

Use a tenon jig to hold the workpiece. See attached. Use two clamps when possible for safety.
