if they are real wood, you should be able to sand and stain them, if not, instead of buying new ones, look into having them refaced. You'll save a bunch of money. In refacing they replace the doors with one of your choosing and apply a matching new surface to the exposed sections of the cabinet.

You can reface them yourself and just buy new doors. That's my next project!

Hi,
I had kitchen cabinets with a very dark stain that I hated. I stripped them and then pickled them and finished with polyurathane. I bought the white pickle; but, it comes in different colors. They now look a silvery/grey color, kinda like a weathered wood. I thought my husband would think they looked like old barn wood, but he liked them. It is a nice compromise between stain and paint. They have color but you can still see the wood grain beneath.

Hardwood-Are your cabinet boxes in good shape? If they are and you like the look of real wood I suggest refacing your boxes with Oak,Maple, cherry etc. and replace your doors and drawer fronts to match. Purchase them unfinished and do the finish yourself to save money or get them already finished if you don't want the hassel. Have the doors predrilled for hinges that they supply will save you undue headaches when installing the doors. I discovered a fantastic company when I did my bathroom last year. www.taylorcabinedoor.comTheir refacing materials were precut to my specifications which made it so much easier for me to install (my first of several projects in refacing. They were even there when I ran into questions/problems I emailed pictures to them so they could see what I needed help with and solutions found. My wife loves her "new" bathroom and brags about it regularly.
