I am re-finishing an old bed room set, the bed has post on all four corners, my issue is that it seems that the post were turned from a two pieces of wood glued together and they are coming apart on some parts of the post. What can I do to repair this before I finish them? any ideas?

How much separation is there between the pieces, and does it look like the old glue is still in there? First thing you would have to do is remove any of the old glue that may still be present. Then I think you have two choices: 1) If the gap is 1/16" or less, mix some of the sandings from the post with white wood glue to make a filler paste. Apply it to the separated areas and allow to dry thoroughly, then sand and finish. The filled area will match the base wood and the repair will be hard to detect. 2) If the gap is wider than a sixteenth, drill and countersink a hole in the middle of the separated area perpendicular to the split. Shoot in a wood screw to draw the pieces together then plug the hole and finish. Use a plug cutter rather than dowel rod so that you can match the grain. Either way there will be some evidence of the repair, but would look better than a delaminated post.
