While watching the show "Cool Tools" over the Thanksgiving weekend, there was a power saw showed that could cut through wood but also solid steel. I would like to get information on this saw so that I might purchase it for my husband for Christmas. If anyone can help with this I would so appreciate it.
Thank you

Several types of saws can cut both wood and metal - it depends on what type of blade is installed.

A reciprocating saw (commonly called a Sawzall) has one long skinny blade that moves in and out. You can get wood blades, metal blades and multipurpose blades that will cut both. Not very good for cutting straight lines but great for demolition work or getting in to tight places.

A circular saw used round 7-1/4" blades. You can get blades that cut wood, blades for metal or blades for concrete and masonry.

Jaybee, thanks for you reply, this saw is like a circular saw but you can also bring the blade forward and slide it back. I wish I had been watching Cool Tools closer to have gotten the name.

it all depends on the blade My dear

I have cut wood, concrete, tile ,bricks useing a wood cutting saw

however I used a old cheapo garage sale special I picked up to $10 to cut brick and tile and concrete since the dust is very destructive and when that dust gets to the motor and it conks out I don't worry and I just hit the next garage sale
when your cutting any thing rock based brick concrete tile you need some kinda dust control like a wet tile saw also rock product will tear up a blade very quickly like a couple minutes
any blade that can cut metal is probably not a good wood cuting blade
