From time to time I want to sharpen dowel rods of all sorts of sizes, from 1/4" to 1.5". Is there a tool, either hand or power tool attachment, that would act like a pencil sharpener for such? I have a large hand held pencil sharpener for sharpening carpenters pencils, but what I am looking for would need to be quite a bit larger. Might need to be hooked up to a power drill.

Clamp a guide block at the required pointing angle on your disk sander or your table saw with a sander disk. Rotate the dowel against it. It's very quick and effective
